Transforming Guwahati’s Bypass for Smoother, Safer Connectivity

The Guwahati Bypass project involved the six-laning of a 16.448 km stretch from Km 146+172 to Km 162+620, along with the construction of four 6-lane flyovers at Boragaon, Gorchuk, Lokhra and Basistha Junctions.

Developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana on an EPC basis, the project upgraded a key urban highway corridor in Guwahati, expanding the existing road infrastructure and introducing grade-separated crossings at major junctions. The project also included a vehicular underpass at Lalmati and supporting highway infrastructure. Scribd

As part of the Authority’s Engineer consultancy, TPF Engineering Pvt. Ltd. in association with MAV Associates LLP was appointed to support NHAI in overseeing the project.

Engineering Oversight Across a Critical Urban Corridor

The consultancy involved providing Authority’s Engineer services for the supervision of construction and ensuring that the works were executed in accordance with the applicable technical specifications, engineering requirements and contractual provisions.

The scope covered construction supervision, review of engineering designs and drawings, quality assurance and quality control, monitoring of construction progress, inspection of highway and structural works, measurement and certification, and contract administration.

The project was completed ahead of its originally scheduled completion timeline, with the upgraded bypass inaugurated in March 2024. NHAI subsequently recorded the project with its completion/CC status.

Project Impact

The upgraded corridor provides additional road capacity through three lanes in each direction, supported by service lanes and improved junction infrastructure. The four flyovers were designed to improve movement through some of the key junctions along the bypass, helping create a smoother and more efficient urban traffic corridor.
